Stepping Stones Children's Museum - Daily
/At Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Children 10 and under, along with their parents, caregivers and educators will benefit from fun and educational exhibits which foster exploration, discovery and imagination by learning through play.
The gallery is broken down into the following areas:
1. Tot Town® (suitable for Birth - 36 months : infants, pre-walkers & toddlers)
Within Tot Town is a special separate safe space designed just for infants and pre-walkers includes activity mats, a giant gymini, infant toys and puzzles which encourage infants to move, crawl, stand, walk and tumble!
Aside from the infant area, toddlers will have a ball exploring an exhibit inspired by nursery rhymes and familiar everyday objects – designed to spark curiosity, foster early learning and promote literacy.
2. Build It! (suitable for Birth - 7 years)
Even our youngest visitors will be fascinated by the concepts illustrated in this construction-inspired exhibit. Build a building with foam blocks and explore shape and size differences.
3. Energy Lab® (suitable for Birth - 7 years)
Stimulate the senses and prepare to get wet! Even babies will discover the wet, windy and sunny sources that produce energy. Encourage them to splash in the water, feel the wind or watch in wonder as balls move along the tracks.
4. ColorCoaster (suitable for Birth - 7 years)
Proven to stop everybody from 1 to 101 in their tracks, the absolutely mesmerizing ColorCoaster is a 27-foot kinetic sculpture designed by artist George Rhoads. The museum's only permanent exhibit, the ColorCoaster is a non-stop giant mechanical toy that uses energy, motion, gravity, color and light as it spins, whirs, fascinates and delights onlookers of all ages!
5. Express Yourself
To help children and families acquire the social-emotional learning skills to be successful in an increasingly complex world, Stepping Stones developed Express Yourself. Children, families and groups can act out their feelings on camera and explore how creating artwork, listening to music or dancing can affect their mood.
In addition to these exhibits there is also a nature area where children can learn about their natural surroundings.
And finally there is also train, The Solar Express that runs (weather-permitting) several times daily, bringing passengers on a unique 7 – 10 minute ride through historic Mathews Park. The train runs until 11.45am and has a charge of $2 for non members.
