Upcounty Love: A Few Of Our Favorite Things North of White Plains

Hi everyone!

When we talk about Westchester, a lot of the time we’re not thinking South Salem, Pound Ridge, or even Mount Kisco, but we’ve been spending more time upcounty and finding it, well, pretty awesome. Not only are we sweating the huge chunks of property that everyone has up there, but it feels more chill too. Maybe it’s not having to loop around tiny dense downtown areas for an empty meter, or our tiny packed parkways, or our tiny packed Trader Joe’s. Well, anyway, we invite you to venture north for some awesome upcounty finds.

But first, don’t forget to enter our contest for a FREE family four-pack tickets to Shadow Play at the Performing Arts Center. This delightful performance will take place on Sunday, March 10 at 3pm. Have you ever wondered what happens to your shadow while you sleep? Follow the playful adventures of Flash and his quest to reunite with his shadow in this multimedia performance for the youngest of audiences (ages 2–5), and the young at heart. For a chance to win free tickets, follow us on Instagram, then fill out this form by March 1. Good luck!

Shop Upcounty

Jefferson Valley Mall

This mall will make you a little nostalgic for your teenage years. Hot Topic? Spencer’s? But it’s a relaxing place to get some shopping done, and with Macy’s, H&M, The Children’s Place, and LOFT, you won’t leave empty handed. And it’s a great place to bring the kids. Borrow one of their fun racecar stroller carts and take a spin. Bring some cash and take a break at the ride-ons just outside the Family Fun Center’s “Play Connection". Or check out the mall’s kids club, called KidX, for story times, after-school science programs, and special events like Dr. Seuss Day. Click here for more info.

Swim Upcounty

Goldfish Swim School

This popular national swimming academy opened a brand-new location in Yorktown Heights that was designed for swim. Play areas for siblings, plenty of seating with great views of the pool for keeping track of your little one’s progress, and smart locker rooms. Changing tables and high chairs for the littlest swimmers, a blowdry station to make sure no one leaves with a wet head, a row of showers set to one (warm!) temperature to get kids in and out quickly, and tons of changing rooms so no one ever has to wait around in their towel. Oh, and did we mention tons of swim lessons? Lots of instructors in the pool and low student-to-teacher ratios help kids of all ages and abilities build their swim skills. Click here for more info.

Eat Upcounty

Exit 4 Food Hall

This is the perfect date place, mommy’s night out, or even family friendly place to grab a bite. The 9 creative food stations ensure there is something for everyone, and the drinks are just as creative. Cozy up at the bar and order a la carte, or grab a table in the back and take a break until your food arrives. The menu has everything from burgers to pizza to sushi burritos, salads and barbecue. Click here for more info.

SugarHi Bakery

We almost don’t want to tell you about this lower upcounty place, because once you know, you’ll be thinking about it All. The. Time. If Lulu’s is the epitome of downcounty eleganza, SugarHi is its cool, down-to-earth upcounty cousin. Teensy delicate cakes? No thanks! How about fudge covered, caramel soaked Oreo cakes that spit out candy when you cut them? How about cookies as big as your fist? Our favorite is the s’mores bar, but their take on ring dings and pop tarts are also fan favorites. For some reason you won’t find this bake shop in the Best Of Westchester finals, but that’s okay, more for us! Click here for more info.
