From a Child's Perspective

  • WASHINGTON IRVING'S SUNNYSIDE 3 W Sunnyside Ln Tarrytown United States (map)

Parents and children are invited to travel back to the 19th century and view the home of Washington Irving through a child’s eyes. Explore Sunnyside as a family home, and before or after your tour, play games, try on period clothing (photo-op!), and participate in hands-on-activities. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it.

Theme for August 27: Rip Van Winkle
Rip Van Winkle is one of Washington Irving’s most famous stories and today we celebrate Mr. Van Winkle with a day all about his life and times. Families are invited to write their own script and act out their version of his story. At the craft table, create your own Rip Van Winkle mask or illustrate a scene from his story. Hear the story in its original form and enjoy other games and activities throughout the day.
